Balanced Thinking in a Wobbly World – November 23rd, 2014.

The Importance of Balanced Thinking

1) Both Elders and their wives are to be “sober-minded”
1 Timothy 3:2,11
2) Older men are to be well-balanced and “temperate”
Titus 2:2
3) Paul encourages a young pastor to “keep your head”
2 Timothy 4:5

Balanced Thinking Can Be Learned

1) Avoid silly myths and useless superstitions
1 Timothy 4:7
2) Useless babble and false “knowledge” cause you to swerve
1 Timothy 6:20
3) “Godless chatter” makes us “more and more ungodly”
2 Timothy 2:16

The Stabilizing Effect of the Gospel

1) The Gospel is “of first importance”
1 Corinthians 15:3
2) The Gospel is the means by which we “renew” our minds
Romans 12:1-2

“If there’s anything in life we should be passionate about, it’s the gospel. And I don’t mean passionate only about sharing it with others. I mean passionate about thinking about it, dwelling on it, rejoicing in it, allowing it to color the way we look at the world. Only one thing can be of first importance to each of us. And only the gospel ought to be.”
